Meet the patient
A 22-year-old man has just been discharged after his first psychotic episode. His mother sits in front of you, exhausted and furious. "He just needs to pull himself together," she says, five times in ten minutes. His father is silent. His younger sister is frightened.[2][7]
Every registrar's instinct is to defend the patient. Every examiner's question is sharper: "What do you do with the family in the next six months?" If your answer is "give them a leaflet," you have failed the station. This topic is the answer that gets marks.[10][11]
