Meet the patient
A 29-year-old arrives in ED at 11pm with a superficial forearm laceration, forty minutes after a three-week-old relationship ended by text. She weeps, then laughs, then weeps. She tells triage he was "the only person who ever really understood me."[1][14]
The handover you will actually hear: "attention-seeking, medically cleared, for discharge." The question the examiner will actually ask: "On what evidence did you conclude the risk was low?"[11][14]
This topic is a defence against that handover — and against the opposite error, stamping a lifelong personality label onto twenty minutes of the worst night of somebody's year.[1][2]
You have read the opening of this topic. The complete unit — every section and its primary-source references — is part of the Psychiatry Fellowship fellowship atlas.
