Anaes Vivas · Vaporisers
Data viva — the vaporiser output vs temperature curve
A data viva on the output-vs-time curve — the uncompensated output falls as the chamber cools (the endothermic vaporisation lowers the SVP); the bimetallic strip holds the compensated output flat.

Prompt
A graph of the output concentration (per cent) against time for a plenum vaporiser delivering sevoflurane at a constant dial setting of 2 per cent and a constant fresh gas flow. Two curves are shown: one labelled 'uncompensated' falling steadily over 60 minutes; one labelled 'temperature-compensated' remaining flat near 2 per cent.
Stimulus
A graph shows the output concentration (per cent) of a sevoflurane plenum vaporiser against time, at a constant dial of 2 per cent and a constant fresh gas flow. There are two curves. The uncompensated curve starts at 2 per cent and falls steadily to about 1.4 per cent over 60 minutes. The temperature-compensated curve stays flat near 2 per cent (within plus or minus 15 per cent) throughout. Interpret the curves.
