Thermoregulation
Primary — hypothalamic thermostat; heat production (metabolism, shivering, non-shivering) and loss (radiation 60 percent, convection, conduction, evaporation); anaesthesia lowers vasoconstriction threshold 2-3 degrees C; three phases (redistribution, linear decline, plateau); prewarming; forced-air warming; consequences (wound infection, coagulopathy, prolonged drug action, shivering); malignant hyperthermia.
