Anaes SAQs · Anaesthesia for the co-morbid & elderly
The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the aging
Primary physiology — the reduced total body water and the lean mass (the higher water-soluble drug concentration), the increased fat (the prolonged lipid-soluble duration), the reduced hepatic and the renal clearance, the increased CNS sensitivity (the MAC falls 6 per cent per decade, the opioid and the benzodiazepine sensitivity rises), and the dose reduction.
