Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a rapid (hours to days) decline in kidney function defined by KDIGO as a serum creatinine rise of 0.3 mg/dL (26.5 micromol/L) or more within 48 hours, a creatinine 1.5 times baseline or more within 7 days, or urine output under 0.5 mL/kg/h for 6 hours or more.
