Meet the patient
A 16-year-old dancer is brought by her parents after a faint in class. She has lost 12 kg in four months, her heart ticks at 38, and she tells you, calmly, that she is "fine — just choosing to be healthy." Her phosphate, you notice, has not yet been checked.[5][8]
Every registrar wants to start with the eating-disorder therapy. Every examiner wants to know: "Is she safe to be an outpatient tonight, and what will kill her first if you refeed her too fast?" The whole topic is the answer to those two questions.[6][7]
You have read the opening of this topic. The complete unit — every section and its primary-source references — is part of the Psychiatry Fellowship fellowship atlas.
