Cultural safety in maternity care — communication and service-development station
Communication and service-development station: the candidate must present a clinical framework for cultural safety in maternity care, defend it against a sceptical consultant, and propose a unit-level audit and service-redevelopment plan. The case tests the cultural safety communication domain and the institutional response to health inequity. Includes assessor timeline table, marking domains, assessor key inside <Reveal, and fail criteria.

Station brief
Format. Communication and service-development station, approximately 12 minutes. You are the FRANZCOG trainee presenting at Grand Round. The Director of Obstetrics is in the chair. The audience includes consultant obstetricians, midwives, junior medical officers, and the Aboriginal Liaison Officer. A senior consultant (the examiner playing the role) will challenge the framework, the evidence, and the recommended action. The assessor will run the clock and feed you questions at the marked intervals. [1]
Candidate instruction. Open with an Acknowledgement of Country. Present the framework (Curtis 2019), the operational answer (RISE Framework), the evidence (BRISC OR 0.50), and the unit-level audit. Respond to the consultant's questions with humility, citation, and the institutional — not the individual — frame. Close by acknowledging the limits of your own knowledge and naming the next action.
