A 21-year-old university student presents to a primary-care abortion service requesting termination of an unintended pregnancy. She is 6 weeks 5 days by certain dates, is well, and is unsure whether she wants tablets or a procedure. Her new partner has accompanied her and is answering most of the questions for her. You are the registrar running the consultation.

Station brief

Format. Communication-and-management station, approximately 12 minutes. You are the registrar in a GP-led abortion service. A practice nurse and a GP supervisor are available. The assessor will play the patient (and, briefly, the partner) and feed you information on request. [1]

Candidate instruction. Conduct the consultation: confirm the request, counsel the methods, screen for coercion, support an informed choice, prescribe and brief on the chosen regimen, and arrange follow-up and contraception. Verbalise your safety-netting and your communication moves. [1][4]
